Twin Oaks Hammocks is an outdoor / casual furniture company which produces hammocks, hanging chairs, and related accessories. This company is a worker-owned business, is vertically integrated and is one of the last domestic manufacturers of hammocks in the US. We produce about 5,000 hammocks each year. 

Responsibilities: Work will include analysis of the market, design of sales strategies, social media promotion campaigns, and analysis of competition. However this is an unusual internship. All interns work approximately 42 hours a week in the community; however, some portion of those hours will be done in work areas other than Marketing. There are over 200 different jobs in the community to choose from. Some is physical work like making the hammocks we sell as well as jobs such as organic gardening or wood-splitting. Some work is more clerical jobs like basic bookkeeping and order processing. There are also a number of different domestic jobs like cooking, cleaning and child care.

What kind of training will be provided to the intern? The intern will receive job-specific training in each work area.

Other details: Each intern will have a private bedroom in one of our residential buildings. The intern will complete a three-week visitor period during which time they will learn the basics and most important aspects of our systems and culture alongside beginning their usual work. Following this visitor period, the community will accept the intern for the agreed-upon period of the internship provided that the intern has demonstrated an ability and willingness to live and work within the norms and expectations of the community. All interns have access to internet; learning about our decision making; access to community resources and facilities such as our wood shop; recreation including yoga, pond activities, canoes, dances, parties, films, and more.
