Old twister. This rope twisting machine was probably manufactured before 1920. Though an electric motor and modern controls were added it's otherwise the same machinery first made before 1900 and still in use in various rope factories. We put this in service in the 1980s and ran it for decades.

Summer operates new twister. Polypropylene (olefin) carpet yarns are twisted in this operation in the first stage of hammock rope making. This is our newer faster machinery acquired in the 90s. Some folks from Acorn community tried to set up a rope business in Vermont and we got this set of machines when their community & business failed.

For many years we've produced our own polypropylene hammock rope from UV stabilized carpet yarns (and at times polyester rope as well).
